Dogs with Diabetes

Last week we took our Westie (West Highland Terrier) to the vet as she had, what we thought was conjunctivitis in her eye and she was peeing lots.
We received meds for her eyes, diagnosed as "Dry Eye". Further to this the vet (a lovely woman) suggested she be tested for diabetes, as the pee had shown to have glucose within it.
Bloods were taken and sent to the Lab.

Sure enough, a few days later, we received a call from the vet, "Megan" (the dog) had diabetes. We were to return to the surgery and Megan would have her blood pressure taken and we would receive insulin, syringes, keto-diastix (for testing her pee), antibiotics and Glucogel. (In case she goes into annafalactic shock)
"Sharps" bucket and DVD booklets and the bill, for almost £350.00.. Ouch!!

We now embark on a journey into the unknown, as my wife and I are both disabled and funds are tight (to say the least).
Today,15/10/2013, was the first injection at home. Check food, check pee, clean eyes and treat, syringe in sharps bucket. Done.
Later today, we go back to vet to receive instruction on how to take pee test. As I have said, this is done and graph filled in.
Later, this afternoon, I take the wife to hospital for pain treatment for her Fybro-myalgia. All going on and I have to say that I am finding the thought of the future responsibilities daunting.

To cap all the above, my heating oil tank desperately needs replacement at £1200.00, and then filled at £800.00. How all this will be done is a mystery but "things" seem to have a way of sorting themselves out. Here's hoping.

If you've any tips on how to help Megan through this, make a suggestion on site.
Thanks to all who have wished us well, I really appreciate it.

HAVE YOUR SAY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE. ONE WORD CAN CHANGE A LIFETIME.
Our children are an asset we cannot squander. For those who seek to exploit or abuse our children, BEWARE! Our future depends on their safety, so we will protect them.

TOO MANY ACHES AND PAINS?

If you suffer from aches and pains it is important to make sure you have established whether these pains are superficial or critical, that is to say, as a result of a knock or bump or are more serious and may be some disabling condition.
Never be afraid or unsure about speaking to your doctor. As the saying goes, "it is better to be sure". Believe me it is always better, my wife and I went five years before we sort help from our doctor, to find out that she was suffering from "fibro-myalgia, angina and high blood-pressure" and I had damage to two areas of my spine and more recently asthma. She ended up in a wheel-chair for three years, only more recently (six years on) being able to walk some times, with great pain.
Never sell yourself short.
